We had our 9-month post-transplant appointment this week. A few of Jaisal's liver enzymes are elevated but the doctors don't seem concerned. There is the possibility the elevated labs are a result of an immune response caused by Jaisal's vaccinations from a few weeks ago or that this is more of Jaisal's atypical typical labs. We're hoping it's one of these benign explanations and not early signs of rejection or other problems. We'll get repeat labs in two weeks to see how he is trending. I am following the doctor's lead and not worrying until we have something concrete to worry about. Yup, I am fully embracing our new normal of post-transplant life.
Other than that Jaisal is doing really well. Sir Oliver feels good. Jaisal continues to turn into a lanky fellow. He's getting taller but has not put on any weight in the past month. It's weird for the lack of weight gain to be okay, but I guess kids start thinning out around age 2. Plus the steroids were probably adding some false weight gain so now we'll start to get a real metric of where his weight will be.
For the first time in a long time, Jaisal had a normal blood pressure. We're going to trial him off of his blood pressure medication and see if the BP remains normal. It'd be nice to not have to deal with this particular medication anymore since it requires refrigeration and has an elevated heart rate as one of its side effects.
We also learned that a fellow who we really like is officially an attending and seeing patients in clinic. I think he may frequently replace one of the doctors who we really don't like, so this is great news. In the same breath our APN told us she was leaving liver service to return to the cardiac unit. Seeing patients only once a week in clinic wasn't enough patient contact for her. Bummer. We really really liked her.
Last but not least, we can go 6 weeks between appointments. Woo hoo!!!
