Sir Oliver is happy! So happy! It's great. We had labs a week ago and Jaisal's liver numbers are the best they've ever been. It's so thrilling.
We weaned off one more immune suppressant and will check labs later this week and again in a month to make sure Sir Oliver continues to be happy.
The good thing about labs later this week? Jaisal won't feel them (since he hates labs now and fights in the chair like no ones business). The bad thing about labs later this week? Jaisal won't feel the labs because he'll be under general anesthesia while he's getting ear tubes put in and his adenoids taken out.
The poor little dude has had a vicious cycle of ear infections and sinus issues lately. He's had 3 ear infections in the past two months. His tonsils and adenoids are huge, but thankfully he hasn't had breathing or step issues with his tonsils.
I am not thrilled with the idea of surgery. We visited numerous doctors and got multiple opinions to see if there was any way to avoid it. Alas, avoidance is not possible.
Jaisal's tonsils and adenoids being enlarged is also a bit scary outside of the surgery aspect. Among the many potential complications related to the tacro (immune suppressant) is the risk of developing a type of cancer, post transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) from the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). Jaisal's EBV numbers have bounced a bit from being negative (very few copies) to low positives. None of these tests have required treatment of any kind, but the sneaky thing about PTLD is that it can grow even when EBV is low. And you guessed it, large tonsils and adenoids are one of the spots that PTLD seems to fester.
Our surgeon is going to biopsy the adenoids after they're removed to check for PTLD, so we'd appreciate lots of good thoughts that the results are negative.
While we wait for surgery day on Thursday, we spent this past weekend playing and having a fabulous mother's day. We spent the morning eating and drinking while Jaisal played outside with his cousin Laila. These two are becoming fast friends and I love seeing them together.
Little man's smiling face made my day, particularly because he's been a papa's boy lately and hasn't shown much interest in me, much to my dismay.
We're looking forward to him being healthy and recovered and ready for a family vacation later this month!

Good luck on Thursday for the surgery, hope the wee guy is back on his feet again very quickly.
