Last time Kirk and I were at Yosemite, Tioga Road was closed and we didn't make it up to the meadow. This time was going to be different and we had a great plan. The boys (the grown-up ones) were going to hike up from the valley, over Cloud's Rest, and end up at Tenaya Lake. After that we'd all explore the meadow together.
Jason and Kirk hit the road before first light and had an amazing hike.
The execution of the meet-up, however, was not so great. If we didn't meet up at Tenaya Lake at the specified time, then the boys would take the shuttle and we'd meet at the visitor center, checking in each hour at the hour since there was little to no cell reception. Well.... Kelli and I quickly realized that the shuttle was not yet running and visitor center wasn't open either (it was really early in the season for the meadow). Our eventual back-up plan was to leave (moderately angry) notes at various stopping points for the boys and hoping we could find them.
Success! The families were eventually reunited and we spent a little extra time at the beach before heading to the meadow.
First stop, Soda Springs, where carbonated water erupts from the ground.
It actually tasted pretty good.
The meadow was absolutely gorgeous and I think my favorite spot in the park. We were just slightly early for wildflowers and had we been there a week later, the grass would have been interspersed with a ton of colors.
We also wanted the kiddos to see the giant sequoias in Mariposa Grove.
Little man took the tram up and then hiked most of the way down all while playing follow the leader and climbing through the base of the giant trees.
