To make up for not taking Jaisal to the beach over Memorial Day Weekend, we took him to the beach yesterday afternoon. Jaisal had not been to the beach since almost a year ago. This was the look we got the first time sand got in his sandals. We were not sure how the rest of the beach foray was going to go.
He was surprisingly okay when I finally coaxed him into the water (despite the fairly cold water temperatures). The entertainment value of the water was short-lived. Jaisal spent the next half hour saying "No, no, no" any time the water got anywhere close to his feet.
Throwing rocks was a very fun game. Although once he exhausted throwing all the ones safely away from the water, it was my job to retrieve more rocks for him to throw.
Daddy managed to get some smiles.
And convinced Jaisal that the water wasn't so bad. After this, Jaisal was running in and out of the water with the "waves." It's amazing how over the course of one afternoon he went from disliking sand and the water to happily running around in both.
I love his little feet in the sand.
We had a great afternoon, but transplant was of course not far from our thoughts. Lakes, ponds, rivers, etc. are all breeding grounds for bacteria. Due to his immune suppression, it really isn't advisable for Jaisal to swim in any of these bodies of water. Running in and out of the lake isn't a big deal, but we were keeping a close eye to make sure that his hands didn't go anywhere near his mouth. It's just one of those things where you're having a totally normal experience and then bam, you're reminded of why you're just a little bit different. We always go back to enjoying ourselves, but I hate those moments of awareness sometimes.
