We made it!! 2 months without liver clinic and labs. Longest stretch yet. Woo hoo! There were a few close calls over the last few weeks when Jaisal was sick and we wondered if we should get labs, but we resisted and got to stay away from the hospital for 2 whole months. I reiterate, woo hoo!!!! :)
As is typical, I was anxious all week leading up to this appointment. We're 6 months post-rejection, so if Jaisal's labs looked good (and no point in delaying the good news, they did) we would start to wean off the steroid again. Jaisal's labs are perfect. Sir Oliver's vital statistics are rock solid and all in normal ranges.
Because the docs are concerned that Jaisal rejected previously due to removing the steroid, we're going to wean him slowly this time around and of course monitor with labs. He'll have a reduced dose for the next month and if all is good, we'll reduce the dose once more for another month. I'm probably going to be stressed for that whole period and the next few months following hoping that Sir Oliver stays happy, but it's great news that we get to try.
Other big news is that we can go 3 months between clinic visits! I know we'll definitely have labs a bit more frequently over the next 6 months since, if all goes to plan, we'll be making quite a few changes to medication, but it's nice to know the team feels like Jaisal is stable enough to go 3 months without being seen.
Overall, a pretty great day, well except for the fact that it's bitterly cold with no signs of spring in sight.
Jaisal undeterred from having fun just because he was at the hospital. Play time included counting the tall buildings, trying to climb the pole, and later jumping on the grates because it caused a loud echoing noise.
