Most days, Jaisal is fun and loving and has the best smile and laugh. We continue to be addicted to him and hug and squeeze him to no end. BUT he is a handful. An exhausting ball of energy who can try our patience. Who makes us feel like we are incompetent parents. Who still has loads of sleep issues. Who refuses to get potty trained. Who loves to yell. A lot. Including at 5:30 am. Who we love and adore so much that sometimes we laugh and smile at things he does instead of disciplining him like we probably should be doing.
Evidence that Jaisal can destroy a room in mere seconds.
Jaisal continues to come out of his shell. He is much more accepting of people and likes to be around other kids.
Playing with cousin Laila. Except for some hitting and throwing, they actually played well together.
He's excited to try and learn new things. He is incredibly observant. He surprised us while driving the other day, when he kept saying octagon. We realized he was noticing the stop signs we were passing. (Of course, our amazement at his shape recognition turned to laughter when he started yelling "come back here octagon" at the signs. We tried to explain the difference between animate and inanimate objects, but I am pretty sure the subject matter was lost on him.)
He loves to run. All the time and everywhere. He doesn't care how far he gets from you or if the location is unfamiliar. I now can better understand the child leash thing, though we have not resorted to that....yet.
I'm not sure a leash would have matched the outfit, but man would it have been useful at this wedding.
He continues to love singing and be sung to. He has very strong opinions about what he wants to hear. A frequent favorite is the theme song from his now favorite cartoon, Team Umizoomi. The song and the show make me want to run screaming, but I tolerate it all for the sake of the little man. (He really better take care of me when I am old and feeble for all that I am already going through for him.) His opinions on music make me laugh because he refuses to make choices regarding anything else. He has no favorites for anything - colors, foods, toys, clothes, books, etc. In fact if you ask him to choose something he gets this shy little grin on his face and he slowly points at all his choices in rotation until you get utterly bored and are forced to choose for him.
Being effortlessly cool while turning into a cartoon watching zombie.
Sleep and everything associated with sleeping continues to be Jaisal's nemesis. He's now started fighting going to bed and does not fall asleep for hours. We're not sure if he's having nightmares or what, but every once in a while he has what I've been calling night tantrums. He'll wake up really angry and upset. Wailing at the top of his lungs and totally inconsolable. He doesn't want to be touched and he definitely cannot express what's going on. We're willing to offer water, milk, whatever to calm him down, but he wants none of it. Basically we just have to wait out the tears for about 3-5 minutes and then he'll fall back asleep.
Then there's this:
Jaisal's new thing is that while he wants to snuggle while falling asleep, he now wants to hug us. His little arms can't really reach around us, so he hugs our necks. If you'll look closely, he has one arm over my neck and the other hand/arm weaseled below it. It's incredibly cute. Almost enough to make you forget all the other chaos associated with sleeping, almost.
