Skinned Knees

Jaisal took a tumble at the park while playing with my parents. He skinned both his knees. There were tears, there was blood, there was a required disinfecting of the wounded area.

This is what his knees looked like about a week after the fall.

Why is the photo blurry? Because Jaisal claimed his knees hurt just because I was looking at them. A week after he fell.

During this whole week, any time anyone asked him what he was doing, his response always began with "I hurt my knee." You'd think he was reinjuring himself every day. And the drama of trying to wash his knees. Oh my gosh. There was yelling. Frantic pulling away. Tears. So much drama.

Based on his reaction you'd never believe that he's had his abs cut through twice. That's he had nearly 20 PICC lines and countless IVs. Granted he couldn't really speak during all of these events and even when he could he wasn't very expressive, but still, I thought these were the seriously painful events.

I mean even this past week when we got labs drawn, he cried. He fought having the blue band tied around his arm. He was definitely in pain when the trainee phlebotomist had to wiggle the needle around in his vein to get the one stupid vial filled (it took more time to fill this vial than it typically takes to fill 6). But as soon as the needle was out, he was back to being a sweetheart and even said thank you and bye to the phlebotomist. The needle and the pain were never discussed again.

Skinned knees though, that is serious pain. Those have lasting consequences. Lesson learned kiddo. Lesson learned.
