School!

We purposefully held off on starting Jaisal in school this past September. Honestly, we just weren't ready for him to be exposed to so many germs. Kids are really germy little unsanitary creatures in case you weren't aware.

A mere 6 months later, however, we could tell Jaisal was ready for school. Well not so much in learning but the idea of getting to take a school bus, despite the fact that we told him he does not get to take a school bus quite yet.  So like the pushovers that we are, we let him have his way and go to school. He was really pulling one over on us with the school request.

Here he is, all ready for his first day with the backpack that Uncle Scott and Aunt Chris got him. Don't let the expression on his face fool you. He really was excited to go!

He goes to school two days a week for four hours each day. He loves it. Well except the part where he has to eat what they give him. This was the most recent report we had about his lunch time.

MEALS

Lunch - none of the Chicken Marinara, none of the 3 Way Veg Blend, none of the Mashed Potatoes, none of the Applesauce, all of the Wheat Bread, none of the Milk

That's right, our kid had bread, and presumably water, for lunch. What I learned this day? Jaisal would be just fine with his dining options in an old school movie prison.

The funny thing is that Jaisal is a great eater. He's adventurous about cuisine types but picky about textures. This last weekend his meals included Mickey Mouse pancakes, Indian food, Curried tofu in a coconut sauce, and rice and black beans with pork. He loved all of it. I suspect the school meal was too creamy for him, just like the yogurt, smoothies, ice cream, and any form of white sauce he won't eat. Hopefully he'll learn to expand his palate a bit further from the other kids.

Another thing we've learned from school? The fact that there are mean kids.  On Jaisal's second day in class, a little girl started singing, "No Jaisal, No Jaisal" when little man came into the classroom. The teacher quickly talked to her about it and refocused both Jaisal and this girl. In the end all was well in the world of 3-year olds, but in the world of adults, well, Kirk and I found ourselves with an immediate dislike of this little girl. Yup, we're going to have to work to reign ourselves in and we know it. Thankfully it's all been smooth sailing since then so we can delay our lesson about not being over-protective of our little guy a little bit longer. :)
