Two-Year Checkup

Jaisal had his two-year well check visit earlier this week. I was really excited for our pediatrician to see Jaisal and, as expected, she barely recognized him because he looks like such a different kid even from right after transplant.  Another enjoyable aspect about the doctor's appointment - I got to ask normal parent questions about things like sleep, eating habits, potty training, etc. instead of being in freak out mode over something going on. It is a nice feeling.

Here's a snapshot of Jaisal's stats from the visit:

• Weight - 27 lbs. - 30th percentile
• Height - 35.5 inches - 75-80th percentile
• Head circumference -  19 3/8 inches - 50-75th percentile.

These numbers are so amazing. Jaisal's grown an inch since his last liver clinic less than a month ago. That is insane. I knew getting off the steroids would encourage growth, but wow. That being said, he hasn't gained any weight since that time, so we're going to continue to struggle with shorts just falling off our skinny little guy. It's alright, I am sure like most of the rest of us, one day he'll have to deal with the fact that staying thin doesn't come naturally or easily.

It's truly astonishing how much having Sir Oliver around has changed Jaisal's growth. Here are his stats from his 15-month appointment, right before he was transplanted.

• Weight - 20 lbs. 8 oz. - 5th percentile (and a decent amount of this weight was from his huge scarred liver and the fluid in his belly)
• Height - 30.5 inches - 25-50th percentile
• Head Circumference -18.5 inches - 50th percentile
