Jaisal has tolerated breathing room air for the last two days. He needs the bipap during naps and overnight and needs a little but of oxygen when he sleeps.
Tonight we're testing our home bipap machine. I suspect we'll need one more night of testing before we go home. Part of the test is if Jaisal can tolerate room air through the bipap rather than needing additional oxygen. If so, we can avoid having an oxygen tank in our house, which would be a plus.
No matter what, the little man is making progress. We've convinced the docs to give us nearly floor-like treatment despite still bring in the PICU: assessments every 4 hours instead of 2, not having to be connected to the monitors all day, and being able to take wagon rides around the PICU without a nurse escort. Tomorrow the goal is to get permission to leave the floor without a nurse escort. It's definitely getting difficult to contain and entertain the little man in just his room.
