Riya is 1 month old! I can't believe my little girl is already a month old (and a little sad that we're celebrating this milestone in the hospital). Riya is super chill and rarely cries. She loves to be held and wiggles her way into her preferred position and falls asleep. She's starting to make good eye contact and we had a good staring contest earlier this week.
Riya continues to be an absolute rock star. She now weighs 4 lbs 15 oz. She'll outgrow her preemie clothes at 5 lbs, which at this rate will be tomorrow! Her weight gain might slow a little bit though because she is starting to feed more regularly from a bottle and was moved into an open crib last night (she was starting to overheat in the isolette). Both the exertion to feed and maintain her body temperature will cause her to burn more calories. Nevertheless, our little girl is growing up and plain old growing. :)
In the past week Riya started taking some of her feeds by bottle (partial and full feeds). Then in the past 24 hours she's taken 3 of her 8 feeds totally by bottle and 2 others partially by bottle. It's pretty amazing. She is great tracking herself out of this place. While the eating is going well, Riya doesn't know how to pace herself. When she eats by bottle you have to let her suck some and then pull back a bit to give her time to breathe. Thankfully she's had no episodes while feeding which is a great sign. The nurses (actually everyone) continue to be totally impressed by what she is able to do.
I also met Riya's physical therapist this week. She did a preliminary evaluation and was happy with Riya's muscle tone and posture (who knew that a newborn has posture?). We'll do a full eval next week. Riya also had her eye exam this week. Premature babies can have some issues with blood vessel development in their eyes. Thankfully all the blood vessels are developing properly in her eyes. We'll need to do 1 or 2 more exams over the next month, but again we're trending in the right direction.
Riya also passed her hearing exam today and will get one more head ultrasound at 36 weeks.

We're making some great progress towards discharge and hopefully this little lady will be home in the not too distant future. All of this makes it easier to handle the fact that I am back at work and not spending as much time with Riya (or Jaisal or Kirk).
