Jaisal is tolerating being extubated well. The respiratory therapy also is working to break up the mucous in his lungs, but we have a little ways to go.
Jaisal's labs are showing a small uptick in his liver function. We'll keep monitoring his labs to make sure this isn't rejection, although rejection wouldn't be unexpected. Approximately 80% of liver transplant kids experience some form of rejection in the first 3 months, with many of them experiencing it 7-14 days post transplant.
Jaisal is awake and comfortable but still not really interactive. We're hoping that as his nutritional status improves and we wean down the last of the morphine, our little boy will be back.
We spent a little bit of time holding Jaisal yesterday and it was fabulous. We removed one of Jaisal's lines today and hope to pull his catheter as well this evening. As we reduce these lines, Jaisal will be a lot easier to hold and I expect he'll spend a lot less time in the crib. We're still waiting to see our first smile but I think we'll have it in the next day or two.
