We really think this vent will work out the breathing issues, if we can keep Jaisal calm. But we can't. Normal sedatives don't seem to be working. We keep upping the meds with little relief. He keeps fighting. He keeps de-satting and requiring intervention. (By the way, the PICU fellows are a pretty stellar bunch.) One possible reason for this, his liver is metabolizing the meds too well, but honestly nobody is quite sure.
I hope that he settles down soon. It's killing me to see him awake and agitated because of the tube. The look of confusion and discomfort in his eyes has made new break down more than once.
