A Small Step Backwards

Kirk here for the first time. It has been a crazy night. Since after the surgery Jaisal has been having a hard time breathing. This is not abnormal since he had been through so much, but rather than getting better like we were hoping, he started getting progressively worse this evening. Unfortunately through a culmination of what were most likely several variables, he stopped breathing tonight. It was very surreal, and needless to say one of the most frightening moments of my life. The doctors and nurses were able to get Jaisal back under control quickly, but for all of our joy of him being extubated, Jaisal is now intubated and breathing with the help of a machine. Additionally, Jaisal's hemoglobin has been steadily falling, so we've had to give him blood to get those numbers up. Not sure about the cause, but his other liver numbers are improving, so we're happy about that.

While this is a small step backwards, it is nice to have Jaisal sedated so he can get some rest. Since getting to the PICU he has been able to get only two hours of sleep, and even then it was extremely labored. Right now we are just focused on getting Jaisal stable. We will let you know when we know more.
